It was announced on April 3 that the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum has finally secured its future having purchased its site and the historic RAF Dumfries control tower. Over the last seven years a 'Save our Museum' appeal has raised a total of £40,000 to help fund the acquisition. This was also supported by grants from Solway Heritage through the Landfill Communities Fund and by The Robertson Trust, Dumfries and Galloway Council - Nithsdale Area Committee, and The Holywood Trust. Helen Turner of The Holywood Trust commented: "This is great news, the trust has supported the museum because of its importance to local young people and for the practical volunteering opportunities the organisation gives young people to get involved, to develop existing skills and to learn new skills."
