The first McDonnell Douglas F-4F Phantom used by the German Luftwaffe was displayed in a special colour scheme to mark its official retirement in June. Painted in a distinctive blue and gold livery, 37+01 has been christened First In Last Out to celebrate its long service career. On the fin it also carries the words "Ich melde mich ab" (I am reporting off duty). During the final days of its military service, prior to the repaint, 37+01 was operated by JG 71 'Richthofen'.
