It's hard not to gasp when Phil Lawton pulls open the door to Hangar 7 at Thruxton airfield in Hampshire. Within, standing nose to tail, are the partly fleshed skeletons of two Hawker Hurricanes - examples of a hugely significant British icon that remains, sadly, a comparatively rare sight in our skies. One year from now, the first of these, 1942-built former RCAF Mk.XII G-CBOE, will fly. Another year on, G-BYDL serial number Z52O7, a Gloucester Aircraft Mk.llB, will also emerge - wearing the distinctive markings of Finnish Air Force HC-465, a 1942 Continuation War veteran (see panel). The company behind both of these, and a forthcoming Tiger Moth and Auster, is Phoenix Aero Services.
