The tradition of maintaining one or more decommissioned aircraft on static display outside (and within) military bases is long established in the UK. Sometimes aircraft are mounted on plinths in 'action' mode, while others rest upon their undercarriage. They mostly serve as reminders of when the particular type operated from the base in question, a salute to those who flew and maintained them.
