When 91-year-old former fighter pilot Eric Carter visited the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent, in Staffordshire during late 2011, he had the chance to take a close-up look at a famous aircraft type that he once flew in active service - the Supermarine Spitfire. It looked like his chance to board a Spitfire once again had gone.
