With war imminent, the race was on to produce the weapons that would win it. For some manufacturers this meant designing completely new aircraft, while others sought to adapt existing machines to military purposes. The Lockheed Hudson was among the latter and, unlike most of its contemporaries, it flew throughout the war and was used extensively in the conflict's early years. The Hudson was an adapted, militarised version of Lockheed's civilian Super Electra. Proving tough and versatile, it served in many different roles, ranging from anti-submarine duties to transport and training.
