As we stood at an open hangar at Nigel in South Africa's Rand and surveyed the Airspeed Oxford we were duly overawed. Its wingspan was twice that of our de Havilland Tiger Moths and on each wing was a great big round Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah engine, each one three times the power of the Tiger. Would we cope with this monster - flaps, retractable undercarriage and all? Time alone would tell.
