Readers will be saddened to hear of the passing of the founder of the Second World War Aircraft Preservation Society, Robert 'Bob' Coles, on January 13. The SWWAPS museum at Lasham, Hampshire, was established as one of the UK's pioneer collections and Bob took great pride in its 'independent' stance.rnBob worked for Hawker Aircraft under Sir Sydney Camm initially, and was deeply involved in HS Harrier and Hawk design and development.rnHe was an ardent supporter of the Hurricane and you would be hard pushed to find someone with greater knowledge of the anatomy of this wonderful fighter.
