Although Operation Bolero II, the effort to see the Lockheed P-38F Lightning Glacier Girl complete the flight to the UK begun in 1942, ended at Goose Bay (see pages 4/5), the spirit of the venture continued via The Fighter Collection's North American TF-51D Mustang Miss Velma N251RJ. Flown by Ed Shipley, it was to have accompanied Steve Hinton, flying the P-38, on the epic flight, which left Chino, California, on June 17.
