Soft drink, water and juice processors recorded two fewer mergers in 2012 than in 2011, though there was also less consolidation among bottlers as a strategic initiative. Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) found a solution to copyright problems it encountered with Dr Pepper Bottling Co. of Dublin, Texas, purchasing all of the Dublin bottler's sales and distribution operations and related assets, as well as the rights to distribute Dr Pepper and other DPS brands in the six county territory previously served by Dublin. Seeking to possibly cut off a future rival in the coconut water segment, Vita Coco made an investment in start-up Coco Cafe and will bring the brand into its production and distribution networks.
