High demand for sugar for biofuel production continued to bolster global sugar prices and this looks set to be ongoing. However, a stronger pound relative to other currencies has lowered UK manufacturers' costs. In the event of a no-deal Brexit, tariffs could raise sugar import costs, but not until 2021.
