Three years ago, two of the four cafeterias in the 2,200-student Oxford Public Schools in Massachusetts underwent makeovers with the hope that students would find the areas more inviting. Angela Scolaro, director of foodservices, hired The Artworks Shop, a Massachusetts-based image consulting firm that specializes in school foodservice design, to help. Since the transformation, lunch counts have increased more than 10%, a jump Scolaro partially attributes to the new design. The entire servery was redesigned, but signage has played an important role in the overall package.
