Ever Since Fears Of The fiscal cliff started worrying investors at the end 2012, experts have been warning that stocks would sell off sharply because of the grisly morass in Washington. In spite of the dire forecasts, stocks are at new highs. What's going on here? First, economic numbers, particularly on employment and housing, are improving at a better clip than expected. This trend ripples throughout the economy in positive ways, like allowing lenders to slash reserves held for bum housing bets and make more credit available for consumers and small businesses.
