Simple flat tax? Don't expect anything like that from our busy legislators, who have loaded up the statute books with all manner of taxes, surtaxes, credits, exemptions, deductions, exclusions, depletion allowances, phaseouts, phase-ins and gotchas. Herewith, an assortment of curious tax rules we have come across, with help from Norml, Ray Squitieri, Thomson Reuters Onesource Tax & Accounting and Stephen Von Worley.
