Feudalism has been out of vogue in England for a few centuries, but reclusive billionaire Stefan Persson (rank 13, worth $24.5 billion) has gone old school. In May 2009 the H&M tycoon shelled out a rather thrifty $40 million plus tax to buy the entire Hampshire village of Linkenholt, netting the Swede 1,500 acres of farmland, a 425-acre wooded area and 21 cottages leased to around 40 villagers, most of them London commuters. He first fell for the place while on annual pheasant hunts there with the king of Sweden. (Shrugs longtime Linkenholt gamekeeper Ray Smith, "It was just an ordinary shoot.") A Swedish friend of the king's currently rents out the three-story manor house itself, which passed to a charitable trust after the death of the last squire, entrepreneur Roland Dudley, back in 1964.
