These days one of the biggest stock market obsessions is jobs. Where are they? Why aren't there more? Why can't we create more? Some, like technology pundit Andy Kessler, have argued that technology eats jobs-even sophisticated ones. He's right. Technology can be a powerful productivity pill, allowing firms to make more with the same or less overhead. Technology is what happened to farming 100 years ago. Losing those jobs was good. It's efficient. When thinking about jobs, one can't help but think about Apple and Steve Jobs. The booming Cupertino, Calif. company has created many jobs, especially in the last decade. In 2000 Apple employed 8,568 people worldwide. As of last December the number was 46,600.
