However you host your website-on your own servers or through one of the tens of thousands of third-party hosting companies-be sure it's locked down good and tight. Choos ing a capable hosting service (an arti cle in itself) is critical to preventing a breach. One way to tell if a host offers enough protection is by checking for auditable certifications. An SAS-70 (type I or II) cert, which attests to a company's control of its internal net work, is a requirement for all publicly held IT companies per Sarbanes Oxley rules, but smaller, privately held companies can distinguish themselves by having one as well.
