Sometimes, things just work out for the best. Twenty years ago, at the suggestion of her publisher, M. Jane Williams walked into the office of a Philadelphia-based consulting firm to gather information for her newest book on fundraising and nonprofit management. Instead of simply defining ideas for her book, she became engaged in a meeting of the minds. Before long, she joined what became Schultz & Williams as a partner. Bringing a background in major gift fundraising from prominent education and healthcare organizations, Williams added a new dimension to the existing partnership. This combined experience resulted in a business model for an integrated, nontraditional firm offering fundraising, marketing and nonprofit management services that have survived the test of time.
