Here's a nice round number to ponder: $1.6 billion. That's the amount of money the PGATOUR~®-its players, 100-plus tournaments on all three Tours, and more than 80,000 volunteers-have raised for national and local charitable causes since 1938 when, in an unprecedented and visionary act, the Palm Beach Invitational gave $10,000 from the tournament's proceeds to charities. "The PGA TOUR has done a lot for charity over the years, but only because of the passion for giving back shared by our players, tournaments, sponsors, charities, volunteers and fans," says PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem, who announced a goal of $2 billion in charitable giving by 2014. "When we say, 'Together, anything's possible,' we mean that by rallying behind the common cause of charitable giving, we can create greater awareness and elevate our overall impact, which is so important in these difficult economic times."
