摘要

Harvard geneticist george church was about to start a lecture on DNA sequencing in 2004 when a stranger in the third row stopped him. The man knew intimate details about Church's medical history and suggested the scientist should consider boosting the dose of his cholesterol medicine.rnTotally weird? Maybe it's the future. The anonymous stranger was a hematologist who happened upon Church's medical records online-where Church put them in 1999.rnNow Church is coaxing the rest of the world to follow him into the sunlight. He has recruited ten volunteers, including himself, who are having their genes sequenced and put online, along with their medical records and descriptions of their physical traits. These volunteers, luminaries like tech investor Esther Dyson and psychologist Steven Pinker, will explain to the rest of the world what the experience is like. They'll be guinea pigs for informing patients about the risks of DNA exposure and for developing software to handle terabytes of DNA data.
