A tornado was tearing through the prairie town of Windsor, Cola, the site of Vestas' first US. factory, which produced its first turbine blade three months earlier, on Mar. 5,2008. Hans Jespersen, head of US. manufacturing, texted his last update to blade headquarters in Lem just before watching the cyclone peel back the roof from the Vestas training center, a half-mile from the plant "Being from Denmark, I'd never seen a wind like this before," says Jespersen.
