Three years ago Hawaiian Electric struck a deal with Imperium Renewables to buy biodiesel for a 110-megawatt electric plant planned for Oahu. The original plan called for Imperium to construct a diesel refinery right next to the utility's plant, using funds from a planned stock offering. Imperium would transform imported palm oil into green fuel.rnThose plans are now in the dustbin. Imperium's $345 million stock offering was pulled last year after the biodiesel market turned south. That left the company with no money to build the Hawaiian plant. But Hawaiian Electric is still on the hook to build its plant-and still stuck with biodiesel.
