Exchange-Traded Funds Are Quite the fad. They have swallowed up $900 billion of the world's assets and new ones are being manufactured at every moment. The U.S. has 710 to choose from.rnThis is a good fad, mostly. There are three good reasons to own ETFs. Also, one not so good reason.rnBecause of the category's mostly virtuous features, you probably ought to have a large chunk of your net worth in it. To help you out, Boston money management veteran Jim Lowell offers a regular column on the subject (see p. 108).
