I can't call on my institutional clients with-out hearing anguished questions about the "new normal." In case you have been fishing in the upper Amazon basin, the "new normal" is Pimco's way of declaring that the decade ahead will be lackluster. The slogan has taken on a life of its own and been widely adopted. It's also utter nonsense-rubbish of the first caliber.rnThe basic notion is that all the new insurmountable problems we now face (deficits, unemployment, exhausted consumers) will keep us in a dismal economy and poor stock market for ten years. But to me it seems pretty clear that we are now experiencing the same old normal we've always seen.
