The New York City public schools are yanking an unusual program, called the Brain Education School Program, in which kids in 44 schools were taught yoga poses and breathing exercises to boost their attention and confidence. The district acted after FORBES (followed by other publications) raised questions about the controversial yoga chain, Dahn Yoga & Health Centers, that operated the program. Our story detailed a federal suit in Arizona filed against Dahn by 27 former practitioners. The suit alleged that the plaintiffs were psychologically manipulated and fraudulently induced to spend thousands of dollars on classes that included punishing exercises like bowing 3,000 times with no break, sticking heads in the toilet and licking classmates' feet.
