"Chief Michael Jordan says that, no, beaten and battered EDS is not for sale, and, yes, it is coming back." That was the headline to our story about the Piano, Tex. tech giant. Lots can happen in the course of a few years. Jordan, 72, ceded the top job last year to his chosen successor, Chief Operating Officer Ronald Rittenmeyer, 61. Unlike his predecessor, Rittenmeyer concedes that changes in the tech landscape, especially the competition from low-cost rivals in India and elsewhere, mean the world's second-biggest out- sourcer needs to team up with a powerhouse. In May Rittenmeyer agreed to sell EDS to Hewlett-Packard for $13.9 billion. Rittenmeyer will be reporting to HP's Mark Hurd.
