People who own long-reach demolition equipment think David A. Bennink is a little bit nuts. No matter-he's never been busier. The 38-year-old contractor-turned-consultant claims to have invented a new method of building removal called hybrid deconstruction. It marries the traditional demolition of Sawzalls and sledges to a certain finesse. In under a week Bennink and six workers can peel apart a house like leaf-cutter ants devouring a grapefruit tree. They sell or recycle whatever is useful and landfill the rest (very little, they hope).
