Here's a remedy for the health care crisis: Instead of paying doctors for delivering medical services, pay them for helping patients. How would that work? When there is solid scientific evidence that a particular treatment works, insurance companies and Medicare should pay more. When the evidence is spotty or nonexistent, they should pay less. The general public has become accus-tomed to reading in the morning newspaper about the latest results from high-profile clinical trials.
