Few Italian companies represent la dolce vita at a higher level than Fratelli Cacchione, the tiny silversmith that has produced one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted hollowware and jewelry since 1889. Cacchione has collaborated with Tiffany and Cartier to make boxes and frames, and outfitted the tables of the elite, including Princess Diana. "We're currently working on some beautiful dishes, fruit bowls, and a candelabra for the royal palace in Qatar," says Gianni Cacchione. The fifthgeneration owner isn't the only legacy employee minding the business: Cacchione employed the fathers and grandfathers of many of thernsilversmiths now in its Milan atelier, all of whom have been schooled in classic Italian techniques-making the return on the work as rewarding to a well-dressed home as it is to the wallet.
