A new era was launched on February 16, 2005, the day the Kyoto Protocol - the agenda adopted in 1997 at the third Conference of Parties (COP3) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - entered into force. The occasion is especially significant for The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. Kansai EP is the longstanding No. 1 power provider to Kansai — the region where Kyoto, the city now inextricably associated with the global initiative to curb greenhouse gas emissions, is located.
