Bent on living a dream, linus hall quit his engineering job at Bridgestone Firestone in 2001. He then groveled for an unpaid summer internship at Brooklyn Brewery: long days of mashing, fermenting and brewing. "You can't buy that kind of education," says Hall, who has a Vanderbilt M.B.A. With honed brewing prowess (and a good chunk of his savings) Hall fired up the kettles at his own operation-Nashville's Yazoo Brewing—in 2003. Yazoo now makes six beers, including its signature Dos Perros Ale and Amarillo Pale Ale. Its Hefeweizen won a gold medal at the 2004 Great American Beer Festival.
