In May General Electric Chief Executive Jeffrey Immelt pledged to double GE's research and invest-ment in cleaner technologies to $1.5 billion a year by 2010. The next day two dozen investing institu-tions in the U.S. and Europe promised to invest $1 billion within a year in clean-tech companies. Global revenues from clean technology, broadly defined, now surpass $150 billion a year, according to the Cleantech Venture Network, a for-profit membership group that connects venture and institutional investors with entrepreneurs.
