In planning a corporate meeting or event location is everything. Yet how does one choose the ideal place, considering the vast number of possibilities, from a resort in the Caribbean to a boutique hotel in a city such as San Francisco, and everything in between? The answer, say professional meeting planners, is to focus on the goals of the meeting as well as the specific requirements of those who will attend. Budget is also important, but by zeroing in on the first two factors, the best choices can be made. "If it is a true business meeting in which groups will be meeting in intense sessions eight or ten hours a day, then you may not have to look farther than a hotel at the nearest large airport," says Dennis Edwards, senior vice president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau (www.sunny.org), which represents all of the more than 600 hotels in the area. "If it is an incentive program or team-building program that involves spouses or other guests, then you may want to lean toward a hotel that has restaurants, shopping, nightlife or other activities nearby."
