Establishing itself as a truly global airline and proving that no turbulence in the skies or in the industry can clip its wings, Emirates has collected more than 200 awards since it began operations in 1985, and has just notched up three more, including one for best economy-class airline. But it is not only aircraft numbers, the . variety of destinations or the multinational staff and management that have put Dubai-based Emirates in the big league, says Emirates Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum.
