Central banks in emerging economies generate inflation, instability, corruption and poverty. In a rational universe, most of these central banks would have been abolished years ago. Thanks to politicians and economists, however, we don't live in a rational universe. Indeed, until very recently, most of them ignored the incriminating evidence and sang the glories of national currencies produced by central banks. At the same time, the advocates of central banking loudly complained about the exchange-rate crises that increasingly raised hell in emerging economies, as capital became freer to seek safe havens. All this has about as much logic as giving gasoline and matches to an arsonist and complaining about the fires.
