But what's real life like in the book business? Meg's fictional store was patterned after a real one—Manhattan's Books of Wonder. Ryan even learned how to use a cash register at the shop. Books of Wonder also nestles perilously in the shadow of not one but three Barnes & Nobles. By the laws of Hollywood economics, it should have given up the ghost ages ago.
