It was nice while it lasted: ten years of spectacular earnings growth at SAP AG, the German firm that makes enterprise software which automates and synchronizes everything from the accounting department to the warehouse. Between 1993 and 1997, for example, sap's net income screamed upward from $88 million to $555 million. It was the most dazzling technology success story in Europe. It made Hasso Plattner, a cofounder and the cochairman, who owns a 23% stake, worth some $7 billion at the stock's peak last summer.
