摘要

The article describes development and current situation of social therapy institutions in the German prison system. Those units already exist approximately 40 years, but important changes occurred only in the last ten years as a consequence of new legal regulations. These now enforce all sex offenders with longer prison sentences to undergo social therapy. Among considerable expansion of places in therapy relevant advancements in the context of treatment measures and prognosis occurred. In this context often anglo-american developments have been adopted. Cognitive-behavioral treatment and the application of standardized risk assessment tools are of particular concern. The final section deals with several evaluation studies on social therapy of sex offenders which are analyzed in a research project of the German centre for criminology.
