摘要

The treatment of personality disorders in the Austrian judiciary system is mainly based on the legal definition of offenders who are “guilty by reason of insanity”. Delinquents, who have been sentenced guilty by reason of insanity have to be imprisoned in special treatment units, and will stay in prison, as long as they are considered to be dangerous to commit a serious crime. At present 356 persons (31. 12. 2006) are imprisoned due to this judgement (which is 4.0% of all prisoners in Austria). Approximately 70% of these prisoners have been diagnosed as having a personality disorder. In the past four years, after request of the Ministry of Justice, diagnostics and treatment of these offenders are based on an Austrian wide concept, which is more or less used in all treatment units. This paper focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of these offenders.
