摘要

As a consequence of national health policy developments the German Cancer Society (DKG) initiated a certification system in the year 2003. After the establishment of the first certified breast cancer centers, centers for colon and prostate cancer and since 2008, centers of lung, skin and gynecological cancer followed. Since 2010 oncological centers have the opportunity to be additionally certified as head and neck tumor, neurooncological or pancreas tumor centers and 247 of the 825 certified centers in Germany are now colon cancer centers. Like all other DKG-certified clinics they are validated according to criteria determining quality, which enable oncological care at the highest possible level. The comprehensive care becomes possible by interdisciplinary and multiprofessional cooperation of all specialist disciplines involved. The measurement of quality of care is realized by key criteria which reflect the recommendations of oncological guidelines, interdisciplinary collaboration as well as the expertise of the team members. The key criteria are included in the annual benchmarking reports, which show a summary of the process, structure and result quality of the certified colon cancer center. They give an important overview about the current medical care situation within the center as well as in the national comparison. They therefore constitute an apparatus for quality control and make an important contribution for the further development of the centers and the whole network.
