Role of water vapor in oxidative decomposition of calcium sulfide

摘要

CaS formed from the CaO sorbent during desulfurization in coal gasifiers has to be converted to CaSO_4 before disposal. CaS is mainly decomposed to CaO and SO_2 by O_2 and then CaO is converted to CaSO_4 by SO_2 and O_2. The role of H_2O in the oxidative decomposition of CaS with O_2 was studied using reagent grade CaS and H_2~(18)O. The following results were obtained: (1) there is a synergistic effect of H_2O and O_2 on the oxidative decomposition of CaS to CaO and SO_2; (2) H_2O reacts with CaS to form CaO, SO_2 and H_2 in the absence of O_2; (3) the oxidative decomposition of CaS to CaO and SO_2 occurs stepwise; (4) H_2O directly reacts with CaS in the presence of O_2; (5) H_2O plays an important role in the oxidative decomposition of CaS even if the O_2 concentration is high.
