How has the human mind evolved over the eons, and how might it continue to evolve in the future? What might guide its evolution? And what, if anything, can we do to ensure that it evolves in the best way possible? Thomas Lom-bardo explores these and other questions in a compilation of 20 essays-all authored or co-authored by him-titled Wisdom, Consciousness, and the Future.rnIn some essays, Lombardo discusses "future consciousness," our perception of the future. Future consciousness is almost as old as human consciousness itself, as Lombardo explains in the essay "The History of Future Consciousness": Prehistoric cave-dwellers exhibited it when they crafted rocks and branches into tools. No tool maker would have spent time fashioning a natural object into a tool unless he had first envisioned using said tool at some future time.
