Over the past one hundred years, humanity has experienced the most numerous and widespread crimes against entire populations to take place in all of history. These have included mass murder, mass expulsions, vast camp systems, and mass rape.rnFollowing the Holocaust of Jews, Gypsies, and other minority peoples in mid-twentieth century Europe, genocide, eliminationism, and exter-minationism finally entered the consciousness of the entire world. But before this historic tragedy, "mass murder barely registered on the radar screens of government, media, and the public." The world was ruled by the great powers that practiced imperialism-the violent domination of people, setting the stage for genocide, because the conquered would inevitably resist and mass murder would eventually become simply another instrument in a political toolkit, while neighboring countries conveniently looked the other way.
