摘要

Designers consider the future as an intrinsic part of the design process. Their ability to envision possible social, cultural, technological, and economic futures is crucial to the success of their activities. However, this ability is often overlooked by design education and not given specific attention in the curriculum. The tools and techniques used to explore potential futures are not seen as a core element of design curricula, and rarely directly referenced. With an ever-changing landscape of technology, user expectations, and consumer wants and desires, designers face a growing challenge to provide meaningful direction to future solutions. Design education needs to recognize this shift and develop long-term strategies that enable designers to not only be aware of, but also play a major participatory role in shaping change.
