It is with great sadness that the fuzzy set community learnt that Prof. Elie Sanchez, who was serving as an Editorial Board Member of this journal, died in the morning of March 6, 2014 after a long and severe fight against illness. I would like to present my deepest condolences on the loss of Prof. Elie Sanchez. Prof. Elie Sanchez was born in 1944 at Marseille, France. He received two Ph.D. degrees from Aix-Marseille University, one in Mathematics (1972), and the other in Human Biology (1974) entitled "Equations de Relations floues". He was acting as the Director of the Neurinfo Research Department at Marseille-Provence Technopole and the President of the Neural & Fuzzy Systems Institute he founded in 1988, the first Institute associating fuzzy and neural technologies.
