While press manufacturers struggle to sell new technology to printers, many printers-large and small-challenged with declining market share, lower margins, and inconsistent month-over-month sales are forced to maintain and/or grow their businesses with minimal investments. In the short term, with few exceptions, printers that are buying equipment are not buying new web presses; rather they are either further investing in their existing presses to avoid buying new for a few more years or buying used presses. This seems to be a current trend. For this article I have included both short-term tactics for printers and press manufacturers developed to help cope in today's market and the longer-term trends for the market and for web presses.
