While digital printing is usually considered a more environmentally friendly or greener process, it does not mean that it is completely clean or free from regulation. In looking at the various digital printing output devices and environmental obligations, the one process that jumps to the top in terms of environmental concerns is inkjet printing. Certain inkjet units, namely large-format solvent-based ink systems, emit air pollutants that could be regulated and cause a printer to obtain an air permit.
