摘要

The need for beach and dune restoration in heavily developed coastal areas is becoming ever more critical. Beaches and dunes in these areas have been modified or destroyed to the point that waiting for 'natural' recovery to occur is no longer feasible. Karl Nordstrom is a Professor at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he has been teaching for over 30 years. He has published numerous journal articles and books, including Beaches and Dunes of Developed Coasts. In his new book Beach and Dune Restoration, Nordstrom examines the issues attending coastline restoration and offers suggestions that enhance the natural dynamic processes of the shoreline while providing protection against those same processes.
