摘要

New Zealand is a small, open economy that is geographically distant from many of its trading partners. It is proud of its status as a trading nation. Recognizing the benefits that would be offered by a strong Pacific trading bloc, New Zealand was involved in the early 'P4' discussions with Singapore, Brunei and Chile that formed the foundation of the later TPP negotiations. Its long involvement in the process and commitment to the principles of free trade are reflected in its status as Depositary for the TPP (responsible for receiving and circulating specified notifications and requests as well as other responsibilities in helping to administer the agreement), and host for the signing of the TPP itself in February 2016.
