France's Suez has gained more time to find a buyer for its Aguas Argentinas concession in Buenos Aires following a decision to dissolve its asset in Santa Fe. After a more than three-hour meeting on January 20, shareholders of the Suez-controlled company, including Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar), Anglian Water and Vivendi, voted to postpone the decision until February 8. This, the company said in a statement, would give shareholders more time to sell an approximate 70% interest to Fintech Advisory and Latin American Assets Management, two investment funds, in a deal that may involve Agbar staying on as technical operator for at least two years, and as a minority shareholder. The potential buyers would take on Aguas' US$600 million debt. They are reportedly seeking a 20% increase in tariffs, something the government opposes.
